Event: After death of a 2-year-old child, family blamed a doctor for prescribing medications to the patient without examination ultimately leading to her death. They staged a demonstration in the hospital and demanded for compensation claiming the negligence of doctor.

  • Bir Hospital was attacked after a child who underwent hip surgery died from kidney failure. Relatives of the boy stormed the hospital, and assaulted doctors and nurses on duty. The reason they gave for their action was “sheer negligence on the part of the doctors” who treated him.

  • After the death of a patient during her treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital, her relatives had attacked and vandalized the health institution.
22 September, 2008 (Himal Nursing Home)
  • A doctor from Himal Nursing Home was attacked.
25 October, 2008 (Norvic International Hospital)
  • The relatives had attacked the doctor claiming that there was a delay in treatment of a patient leading to his death. The patient was the principal of Modern Indian Boarding school.
16 November, 2008 (Gorkha Hospital)
  • A doctor from Gorkha hospital and public health officers were attacked.
