Western Regional Hospital (Rabies vaccine) Incident

Hospital: Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences (Western Regional Hospital or WRH), Pokhara, Nepal

Type of violence: Physical

Event: After death of a 9-year-old girl following anti-rabies virus vaccine injection, the parents and relatives of the deceased shut the entrances of hospital from early morning and pelted stones at the administration building accusing doctors of being careless in the treatment. Police had to intervene by firing 3 rounds of tear gas and all the wards were evacuated. The patients from there were rushed to the Manipal hospital during which a 3-year-old boy died on the way.
